I agree with you that the movie was very weird and different but at the same time left you wanting to know what was next. I like how you explained that the movie is a good comparison to Plato’s theory of art in that it is a distraction to reality. In my blog I kind of talked about the same ideas and how the different layers of the movie remind me of the different layers of the cave and how the further out you get within the movie and/or the game, the further away you get from reality. I also really liked how you explained the dangers that Plato warns against and how the movie also shows the way that we are intrigued in real life, which exactly proves his point in some way.

I enjoyed reading your post! I really liked your statement of how art inspires others to have the same feeling as the artist. I agree with you about that. Whenever you view art or listen to it, you are able to feel it and it inspires you to capture that feeling throughout your life. The way an artist conveys their artwork is very important. Another part of your blog that I really liked was where you were describing how if an artists is greedy or controlled by fame his artwork will portray that same feeling and therefore will not have any authenticity. According to Tolstoy, if an artist doesn’t have authenticity then he will not have art.

Your blog was very interesting to read! I enjoyed hearing your opinion on how art is not just simply an imitation on objects and ideas but rather the feeling and passion that artists put into their artwork. At the very beginning of your post, you captured me with the question that you asked. From there your blog just flowed easily which made it an easy read for me. I agree with you on your idea of art and that it is not as simple as Plato makes it out to be. Plato’s view of people though, (as being lesser than philosophers), would make sense on his view of art, in that it is getting us further away from reality.

Your post was very easy to read to me! I enjoyed the part of your blog that you mentioned that quote. The movie and that quote easily connect to Plato’s theory on how we get further and further from reality when we engulf ourselves around art or other “manly” ideas. I do have one question for you though, and that is, what did you mean by a “thrice-removed category”? I guess you could have meant, the further on into the game you get (in the movie) the further you are from real life, just like how Plato compared our life to a cave: the further into the cave you get, the further you are from reality. If this interpretation is incorrect let me know please! Again, your blog was very easy for me to read

I like your view point on Clifford’s idea of the boat is trustworthy. I haven’t heard that point of view. To me it actually seems the opposite in the fact that he is explaining how even if the boat didn’t come back from the voyage the captain would have still been responsible for the lives of all those people and risking it for nothing. The old boat was definitely not reliable. With the comparison of the boat and of Clifford’s view point, I believe he is trying to point out that we should not believe anything but instead study our thoughts before making it a belief, otherwise we could harm others if we are holding unwarranted beliefs
